Google Rewarding Mobile Friendly Sites

Mobile-Friendly-Website2

Google has recently announced that they are helping users find mobile friendly pages by adding “mobile friendly” tags to mobile search results.

Non mobile friendly sites require site visitors to scroll left and right, pinch and zoom to read content, and many consumers just bypass sites that are difficult to read on their mobile devices.

This example shows the new mobile friendly tag:

Google will test sites for the mobile friendly designation using a Googlebot and these criteria:

  • Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
  • Uses text that is readable without zooming
  • Sizes content to the screen so users don’t have to scroll horizontally or zoom
  • Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped

You can test your website to determine if it is mobile friendly using the Mobile Friendly Test.
